Mekko Market and Cafe is Australia's first ever Rent A Rack market. The concept of Rent a Rack Market originates from our birth country of Finland and our story started in May 2018,after realizing that there were no preloved Rent a Rack clothing markets in Australia. Because of our love for food (and Mekko's co owner Tom being a chef), we wanted to spice up the traditional Finnish Rent a Rack market concept by bringing along our very own brunch restaurant. We have been offering the best of both world's in the beautiful suburb of Prospect for almost 6 years now - food and fashion! ​

In 2021, we opened our sister market Monday Market in the Parade, Norwood.
When entering Mekko, you are welcomed by green plants, smiley faces and colorful walls. This heritage listed art deco building used to be a police station and a courthouse. The old jail cells can still be found at the back of the building and you are more than welcome to go and have a look.

Our Cafe has something for everyone from the best local producers we can think of. Our menu is contemporary and we cater for different dietary requirements. We have lots of vegan and gluten free options. We also look after those who love a good burger! We are passionate foodies and every meal we serve comes to the table like we have been cooking for our nearest and dearest.

Our stallholders are fashionistas with a good taste which guarantees you'll be spoilt for choice! Our stall holders can start their rack rentals any day of the week so new clothes are guaranteed to arrive daily!

We had an amazing breakfast at this cafe during the weekend. Scrambled eggs on toast with added smoked salmon and cheese which was more than delicious. Outdoor sittings had a nice view of the street. The staff was friendly with great customer service. Highly recommended.

Good breakfast burgers, coffee, and smoothie. It's also fun to have a look at the racks for some clothes while waiting for food to be served. 😊
Vegetarian options: You can swap the bacon of the breakfast burgers for halloumi!
